Is account of Ananias & Sapphira genuine?
by anointed1 in1) ananias “sold a piece of property… and kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet.” (acts 5:1, 2) peter interpreted the whole incident as unbecoming of believers as they created the impression that they are giving full amount received from the sale of their property, and told the wife of ananias: “the feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.” (acts 5:9).
death sentence for slightly exaggerating one’s generosity?.
2) in this incident, peter seems to be over-righteous!

Where We Jews (and Religionists) Have Not Been So Forthcoming
by David_Jay inbecause i feel some people have become confused in thinking that i am promoting religion or thinking that being jewish is some type of special gift that makes me better, i am writing to tell you that i don’t feel this way.
think of this as your christmas gift (or chanukah or festivus or whatever).. despite the fact that i too practice a religion, i also think atheism is a purposeful and noble use of the mind.
too often people with a religion have only bad things to say about atheism and atheists.

Hi David, On the post you referred to, I fail to have seen these nasty foul mouthed comments. The truth is that you wrote factually incorrect things, which were pointed out. ( would you rather people read incorrect information?) May I suggest you have over reacted. And even if you feel Vivianne was rude in her words, I think you have sensationalized a rather insignificant exchange and made a bloody drama out of nothing.
Anyway it appears you have passed sentence on yourself and left the board. Take care mate, and all the best, I enjoyed many of your posts.

Let the party begin.
by The Rebel in- the earth explodes.
one, two, three, more explosions, and then the earth opened beneath my feet, as a loud mouthed angry elder, screamied at me " i told you so".
i am still alive, but deep inside the earth.

scathchme1010...."There are so many who are still wasting their lives in that noncence"
So true. I came back to revisit the board , and then I was pretentious enough to think maybe when I post it is read and helps those escaping " Watch Tower" noncence. So here I am today posting, but not about if God exists or not. My message is simply try to enjoy life and move on. I think that's pretty good advice when you really think about it. I mean did we really enjoy our life having the " truth" and not having fun?

On the contrary " tiki" when a witness my field service reports were always very impressive. My logic was if a thousand years is a day to Jehover, then my field service report could include an extra zero. Such cunning met with Jehovers approval as my cunning zealousness in the field service got me asked if I wanted to be a ministerial servant. A position I repeatedly declined due to being to humble.
Thinking back on that, it's so funny, so stupid, and so ridiculous how Jehovers spirit directed organisation actually works. I am glad I have moved on and can now laugh at the absurdity of it all.
p.s to be honest, I also spent many years giving honest field service reports. Their is nothing funny about that.

- the earth explodes. One, two, three, more explosions, and then the earth opened beneath my feet, as a loud mouthed angry elder, screamied at me " I told you so". I am still alive, but deep inside the earth. I can't see anything, but I am aware my former friends have began shoveling dirt in to my grave. I am sure I can hear others less fortunate than me, running in all directions, screaming, and burning. Soon I and they will be dead, and those long dead such as Hitler, Mussolini and Thatcher will awaken to a new rebirth...

Who of us has ever thought, 'What's the point? I'm going to die anyway'
by Funchback inwhen i truly believed the jws had the truth, i usually reverted back to 'what's the point?
i'm going to die anyway' as a way to justify for doing so-called bad things or not doing so-called good things in jw land.. i shouldn't be watching this r-rated movie.
(why stop?

Yes the organisation was like a cat chasing its prey, one guilt trip after another. We were made to feel like worthless little insects. Now I have left I feel as free as a bird, flying over the Himalayas.

Many of the atheists are doing better than religionists!
by anointed1 ini got up today to listen to the shocking news that russia’s ambassador to turkey was assassinated at an ankara art exhibit, and assassin was acting in the name of god.. it seems things have evolved to the other extreme that atheists are doing the work of religionists and vice versa.
while religionists take delight in killing fellow humans in the name of god, there were many atheists who followed very elevated morality.
the french existentialists and writers jean-paul sartre and albert camus were some of them.

anointed1, I was aware we agreed.
Slightly off-topic but I think the reason atheists often behave better than religionists is that truth doesn't bother itself with events that might happen, or events that could have happened, only the events that actually have happened. This is why as cult members they are not in the news for doing good works, and their benefit to the community zero. Whilst ahiests, and of course some churches are actively involved in making the community a better place today.

Anointed1, " A person who does not believe in God has no obligation to care for anyone..."
I would answer a person who does not believe in God, may however have a strong belief in humanity, and thus an obligation to care for that humanity, it's people, it's animals, and it's environment. Too loose ones faith in God is a separate issue to loosing ones humanity. The progressive loss of my faith in God, and Jehovers Organisation, I believe has made me a more compassionate, tolerant and humane person.

A) Did the Buddha engage in speculative discussion about God?
B) Would you not agree that many Buddhists simply say that the existence of God is not proven and not relevant to their core Buddhist principals anyway?
C) Would you agree a Buddhist can believe in God if it agrees with their own reason and common sense?
Personally I think it a broad sweeping statement to say all Buddhists don't believe in God, and a little arrogant to assume a particular brand of buddisam has all the answers. Hello thats what we once thought with our brand of Christianity, that we were in the " truth" .and had all the answers. Confucius.

Poor people are sub-human?
by Alostpuppydog inhas anyone noticed how many jw's really seem to be rollin in it?
escpecially the elders, and they treat their subordinates like filthy gum on the bottom of their shoe?
just wondering because i too am poorer than poor and have spent a fourth of my life homeless already and i am 22.. another thing to consider is why domost of the population on this planet seem to hate the poor, even though we outnumber the middle class and the rich greatly?

I believe in "personal accountability" and I THANK the nurses, also the people that clean my bins, and make a wonderful contribution to my life. The poor under paid people who contribute to our society often do so because they appreciate their contribution. Why should a nurse who cleans bed pans and cares about her patients, have to struggle to survive on a crappy pay check?
